From Wiki Dublin Irish: Baile Átha Cliath, meaning "town of the hurdled ford", is the capital and most populous city of Ireland. The English name for the city is derived from the Irish name Dubhlinn, meaning "black pool". Founded as a Viking settlement, it evolved into the Kingdom of Dublin and became the island's principal city following the Norman invasion.
We spent our free morning, after waking to the bells at Christchurch (shown at left) on the Hop on hop off bus, which we picked up near the National Museum of Archaelogy, where we got to see the Tara Brooch and Bog people! Truth be told the bog peeps were a bit scary as they looked like old shoe leather and we not all there as they had been chopped in half in some cases...On a lighter note,
we also rode over to the Guiness Storehouse for the tour, lunch at the Brewer's Dining Hall and learning to Pour a Perfect Pint! We have VIDEO HERE XXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXX.
As you can see from the schedule below our 2nd day was packed full in the morning. We had a great guide (Tommy) for the walk and Trinity College and then got to spend time seeing the Book of Kells...the exhibit was the best part as the book itself is not that big, and is dimly lit to protect it. We went from Trinity College to a little Italian place on St. Stephen's Green and then rode the hop on hop off (green) bus to the Old Jameson Distillery for the tour and tasting! I was quick to raise my hand so got picked to try all three (Jack Daniel's, Scotch and Jameson's) at the end of the tour...and a cool certificate too. Took a taxi from Jameson's to the Brazen Head, opened in 1198 it claims to be the oldest pub in Dublin and some say Robin Hood drank there...I don't know about that, but I had a pint of the black stuff there!
